Minimalist Brighton Designs

Brighton is full of inspiration of things to draw! Recently I have found a style of drawing having in mind screen printing, keeping the look stripped back to basics.

Starting with the West Pier, I cleaned the chaotic look of the burnt pier to a few clean lines. The Pavilion is so decorative it is hard to make minimalist! The i360 has satisfying clean lines in real life so works quite naturally.

The iconic can-can legs on the Duke of York’s cinema and Komedia were my first one colour drawing in a screen print style.

The murmurations of starlings that fill the sky on the sea front in Brighton is one of my favourite things about living here. I drew each simplified bird individually to create a sense of movement.

All of the designs are now on 11RugbyRoad.com

with Love

Colour fun quote poster

‘With Love’ is a collection of quotes from friends turned into graphics using bold colours and calligraphy styled text. I like the playful, friendly nature of them and that they feel like an overheard conversation. If they are well received I’ll put them on my new online website 11RugbyRoad.com.

Ohh Deer Competition: Call for Likes!

Pixelated graphic animal

I’ve been busy preparing for the Artist Open Houses in Brighton where I’ll be selling all sorts of pieces. From candles to mugs, prints and cards. But most recently I’ve found time to enter Ohh Deer’s latest competition to get my designs printed and sold in stores (they can be bought online now from the website!) I chose to make clean and colourful geometric graphics of classic stag and rabbit shapes.

Facebook likes and tweets count as votes! So any I could get would be hugely appreciated.

I’m Hot: Saucy modern seaside postcards

Suck Me Fab

The sun looks like it might actually make a few appearances this summer! So in celebration, I’ve made a few postcard designs of classic British ice creams. Slightly more hot and steamy than hot and sticky. Possibly both.

Long live saucy seaside postcards, just with less fat ladies in swimsuits on these ones.

SURVIVE LONDON

london slogans6

Travelling in London is hard. Overcrowded buses, tubes and trains, plus conflicts between commuters and tourists make it a battle ground.

These short and sweet graphics serve as a warning and advice to those travelling to the capital. Life is hard enough, lets not make it more annoying…

#Sound familiar?

Facebook poster design

Inspired by the original Sh*t Girls Say and a realisation that everyone is obsessed with the same things in relation to social media, I’ve designed a series of Typographic posters with phrases we don’t even realise we say. Any suggestions for more unintentional catch phrases people use daily?

Silly Beans

header

This is Silly Beans, a sequel of sorts to Silly Voices. A children’s book designed to be read aloud, Silly Beans uses interactive counting and number recognition all helped by the rhyming word play. Written by my sister Lauren, she has used her Primary School Teacher know how to come up with something playful and endearing to read.

The design is bright and child friendly and reflects the jelly bean theme.  The pastel illustrations are laid placed so that they can be easily followed and pointed out with a little finger while the story is read. The line breaks help the rhymes flow even if the punctuation is skipped by children in a hurry!

We’d love to hear any feedback on this little project. Both of us are already thinking up ideas for our next collaboration, which hopefully shouldn’t be too soon away!

Alternative Shy Christmas Cards

I’ve crafted Christmas cards in same style as my Shy poster series, that featured different printing techniques and subtle colour changes to show a subtle, typographic message.

The worst thing about these cards is that they don’t photograph well! The Christmassy message written on each I’ve got to a perfect amount of visibility (through lots of trial and error).

The first card is fairly traditional with the lyrics “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” on the front in… white. The minimal, effortlessly cool style of the white on white is perfect for those that like a twist on standard Christmas cards.

The other cards take their inspiration for the Pogues song Fairytale of New York. These ‘shy’ cards have had a Christmas drink and are now a bit sweary.

You’re a bum
You’re a punk
You’re an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it’s our last
